Punahou (HI) and Kentwood came away with big wins in the Emerald City Kickoff Classic at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington last Saturday.
They weren't the only ones. Puyallup held off Bellarmine Prep 20-19, Eastside Catholic took a game over Eisenhower 16-8, while Cascade Christian proved the early bird does get the worm, knocking off Fife 46-7 in a game that started at 9:30 AM.
But it was the final two games of the day that were supposed to be the marquee matchups, with Kentwood taking on Kennedy and Central Kitsap hosting nationally-ranked Punahou.
Kennedy jumped out to a quick 14-0 first quarter lead on the Kentwood Conquerors, but then responded with 28 unanswered points to drop the Lancers, 28-14.
In the nightcap, the Punahou Buff 'N Blue played a less than gracious guest, scoring a 42-19 win over the Central Kitsap Cougars. Quarterback Kimo Makaula threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in the first half to lead his team to the win. |
