ST. IGNATIUS EARNS MOUNTAIN HIGH SPLIT
Headline - California - Central Coast Section

04.26.08 - by: Todd Salkowski

The St. Ignatius Wildcats salvaged a weekend lacrosse trip to Colorado with a fantastic last-second victory over the Fort Collins Vipers 6-5 in a game broadcast live on KBCsports.com from Fort Collins, CO.  It was the second game in two days for the Wildcats as they bounced back from a loss against Kent Denver - their first loss in nearly two years.

Billy Mattimore was chosen the KBCsports.com player of the game as he scored two goals, including the game winner with 45 seconds remaining in a tied game.  Mattimore also scored the games' first goal to get the ball rolling for St. Ignatius as the junior attackman shared player of the game honors with senior defenseman Spencer Kaplan.  It was Kaplan who drew the toughest assignment on the evening, forced to shut down the highest scoring Viper, Henry Miketa.  Thanks to the sterling defense of Kaplan, Miketa managed only one tally for Fort Collins.

The Vipers clawed back from a 2-0 deficit by scoring three unanswered goals to take a slim one-goal lead in the second half.  As the game headed to the final quarter it was still a one-goal lead for Fort Collins, but two last-minute goals by the Wildcats would give them their 18th victory of the season.

Goaltenders Kyle Bell of St. Ignatius and Jackson Nye of Fort Collins were virtual brick walls in the cooker as they each made spectacular saves throughout the evening that kept the game close.
