Francis Parker High School - CA
POST-SEASON AWARDS: ALL-NAME TEAM
11.20.07 - by: Troy Hirsch
I was at Mt. Carmel High School calling the Sundevils game against Palomar League rival Rancho Bernardo in early October when a player wearing number 7 made a tackle for RB. My eyes went down the roster, and there it was, one of the greatest names I have ever had the pleasure of saying: Ramtin Farzanfar. Try it. Say it out loud. It’s a lot of fun. This is not a knock against Ramtin or the Farzanfar family at all. To the contrary, I enjoy seeing names and calling names that test the tongue. Anybody can say Jon Smith or Bob Jones, but isn’t it more fun to call the name of Taime Tutogi or Myles Muagututia? Okay, maybe a challenge is a better word for it. But when you get the names down, they just roll off the tongue and bring a smile to your face all at the same time.

At KBCsports.com, our business is calling the games, and saying the names. So after watching nearly every team in the San Diego Section play this fall, we put our heads, and rosters, together and came up with the All-Name Team for the CIF San Diego Section. They may not be superstars, or even starters, but their names put them in a class by themselves.

(Pronunciations came from the coaches of each team, so if we got it wrong, you know our source)

OFFENSE

QB – Jordan Wynn, Oceanside – You almost need to have a names like this to quarterback the three-time defending champion Pirates. Helped Oceanside end Carlsbad’s 25-game unbeaten streak.

QB – Tanner Rust, El Capitan – There is no rust on this kid. Just smooth, fluid motions for the pass-happy Vaqueros. Threw for a section-record 597 yards in season finale.

QB - Daniel Minamide, San Pasqual – (pronounced Minna-mee-dee) Every time we do an Eagles game, we have to call his name A LOT because he carries the ball almost every down.

RB – Ricardo Oberwager, Coronado – (Oh-ber-wah-gur) We’ve called his name since he was a Sophomore, and enjoyed every syllable.

RB – James Anagnosastopolis, Santana – Sounds Greek to me… which I think it is. I believe they just call him James A.

RB – Will Duka, Eastlake – You gotta put up your Dukas to stop this hard-running Titan. Also packs a punch at linebacker.

RB – Armani Taylor, Oceanside – The name “Armani” puts a lot of pressure on a young man to live up to the expectations of fine clothing… this guy’s a tuxedo.

RB – Nick Ricciardulli, Poway – (Rich-ARE-dooly) Leading rusher for the top-ranked team in San Diego. Long name that flows nicely.

FB – Taime Tutogi, Chula Vista – (TIE-me Two-TOE-ghee) Everyone on the KBCsports.com staff loves to call Spartans games just to watch Tutogi play… and to say his name.

WR - Myles Muagututia, Francis Parker – (Mwa-guh-tuh-tee-ah) Mentioned more than any other player in the County. Also plays LB for Francis Parker and an even better volleyball player. We call his name year-round.

WR – Hector Casagrande, St. Augustine – Means “Big House” in Spanish. Seems like he should be bigger than his listed 5’ 8”, 160 lbs.

WR – Judge Evans, Mt. Miguel – I’d wager to guess that he’s a no-nonsense decision maker.

TE – Niko Kanakaris, Christian – Any name with multiple k’s is enjoyable for broadcasters.

OL - Chidozie Ekweozor, Mount Miguel – Not sure exactly how to say his name… not sure if his coaches know either.

OL - Chase Hardage, Cathedral – Just has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

OL – Sammy Cervantes, Poway – Sounds like a name for a kind gentle teddy bear, not a crushing guard and defensive tackle.

OL – Tomas Stonehouse, Cathedral – Gotta love a name like “Stonehouse” on the line.

OL – Abbas Abbas, El Cajon Valley – A name with perfect symmetry.

OL – Christopher Lenczewski, El Cajon Valley – Always need a name ending in “ski” on the O-line.

DEFENSE

DL - Eddie Nuckols, Mission Hills – Goes about 300 pounds, and when he hits you, you feel like you’ve been hit by some knuckles. He also plays fullback for the Grizzlies a la William “The Refrigetor” Perry with the Chicago Bears in the mid-80’s. I’d like to see him and Duka collide.

DL - Skyy Hubbard, Mount Miguel – The name Skyy puts him on the list automatically.

DL – Davion Megginson, El Capitan – Multi-syllabic name fits a defensive lineman perfectly.

LB - Stedman Slaughter, LCC – This is a dream name for a linebacker… and he backs it up too.

LB – Dison Waddles, Eastlake – Nothing works like a Dison.

LB - Alex Papageorge,  La Jolla Country Day – Who’s your Daddy? Papageorge!

LB – Ramtin Farzanfar, Rancho Bernardo – My personal favorite.

DB - Sam Sniff, Christian – Has nose for the ball.

DB – Amha Abebe, Francis Parker - (ah-baby). Forms a nice duo with Muagututia.

DB – Kawika Kaiheiwalu, Rancho Bernardo – I had to call his name a couple of times, and I had to really think about it every time.

DB – Esaias Tsegai, Mission Bay – (Ee-SIGH-us Suh-guy) Quick player who moves faster than you can say his name. (Not to be confused with Berhane Tsegai – LB, San Ysidro)

KR – Very Jackson, Mira Mesa - Very nice name for a very nice player.

Coach: Ron Burner, El Capitan – Loves to burn up the scoreboard with his high-powered offense. The name Burner fits him and his team.
