|11.11.11 by Robert Fields|
In a Coastal League final showdown on Friday night, the Francis Parker Lancers ran and kicked their way to a 20-6 victory over the visiting La Jolla Country Day Torreys. The Lancers only used three plays on their first drive before getting into the end zone, thanks to a 31 yard touchdown run by sophomore Jessie Brookings. Brookings continued his strong play through the game, racking up over 160 all-purpose yards, included a 13 yard reception in the fourth quarter for his second touchdown of the game.
The Torreys had a tough time getting on track all game, either thru the air or on the ground. Star players Colin McMahon, Sage Burmeister and Eddie Garcia were all held in check and didn’t reach the end zone. The lone score for La Jolla Country day came on a wide receiver reverse pass from Tyler Sheflo to Christan Hayes which came on 4th down and covered 27 yards. In between the touchdowns for Parker, they also scored thanks to the foot of senior Max Lee, who connected on field goals of 42 and 43 yards. For his efforts, Lee was named the KBCsports.com player of the game.
Both Francis Parker and La Jolla Country day qualify for the San Diego Section D-V playoffs, so their seasons will continue in the next two weeks.
